Report: Chelsea consider summer deal for Super Eagles star 'too hard to do'
Published: May 12, 2023
Chelsea are ready to end their interest in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen as they feel that it will be difficult to bring him to Stamford Bridge due to his hefty fee, according to reports.
The Super Eagles star has been linked with Chelsea who have struggled all season in front of goal and the club is said to be in desperate need of a prolific striker.
The Blues top scorer this season is Kai Havertz who has 9 goals in all competitions.
In a bid to end their goalscoring woes, Chelsea had identified Osimhen as a primary target after his success with Napoli this season, scoring 28 goals in 35 games in all competitions.
However, according to a report from Football Insider, Chelsea now see a deal for the 24-year-old as 'too hard to do' in the summer window.
With Chelsea not playing European football next season, the club will not be able to benefit from the financial largesse being enjoyed by teams playing in Europe.
This explains why Chelsea are ready to end their pursuit of the Nigerian striker unless there is a change in circumstances.
The club is now said to be focused on reducing the wage bill by offloading players to avoid Financial Fair Play breach.
