Brentford, Leicester stars named in Super Eagles expanded squad for 2023 AFCONQ
Published: June 09, 2023Frank Onyeka is in line to add to his international caps later this month when the Super Eagles face Sierra Leone in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Liberia.
The Bees informed via their official website on Thursday that Onyeka has been called up for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier..
It should be stressed that the Nigeria Football Federation have not yet announced the squad list for the matchday five encounter on June 18, 2023.
However, an invitation letter has been sent to Brentford for the release of their player to the Nigeria Football Federation, meaning he was certainly included in the Super Eagles' expanded squad.
According to Fifa rules, clubs must be notified of call-ups fifteen days before an international match.
Leicester City have also officially confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have been selected in Nigeria's expanded squad for the AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone.
The Super Eagles are topping Group A of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and would qualify for next year's tournament in Ivory Coast with a game to spare if they beat the Leone Stars.
The aforementioned players were all called up for the back-to-back internationals against Guinea-Bissau in March 2023.
