Official: Chelsea loan out striker managed by Nigerian agent
Published: July 11, 2023
With a statement on their official website, English Premier League club Chelsea have announced that David Fofana has completed a season-long loan move to Bundesliga side Union Berlin.
Fofana, an Ivory Coast international, is represented by influential Oslo-based Nigerian agent Atta Aneke, who looks after Super Eagles players Odion Ighalo, Chidera Ejuke and Aaron Samuel, and Nigeria U20 international Abel Ogwuche.
The Ivorian joined Chelsea from Molde in the January transfer window, signing a contract until 2029 with an option to extend for a further year.
Although the transfer fee paid to the Eliteserien club was not disclosed by Chelsea, Aneke revealed that it was the most expensive outbound transfer in Norwegian football history.
Fofana made three appearances in the Premier League in the second half of last season and was utilized for 45 minutes against Manchester City in the Emirates FA Cup.
Reacting to the transfer of his client, Aneke said: "David Datro Fofana will move to German Champions League team Union Berlin on a loan deal during the 2023/2024 season from parent club Chelsea.
"The journey and development continues for the highly talented Ivory Coast attacker and we look forward to see you light up Berlin with fire".
Aneke's clients past and present including Anthony Ujah and Suleiman Abdullahi were once on the books of Union Berlin, who finished fourth in last season's Bundesliga.
