Osayi-Samuel: Another Super Eagles player snubbed by Peseiro opens season account
Published: September 04, 2023Bright Osayi-Samuel opened his goalscoring account for the 2023-2024 season as Fenerbahce earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over MKE Ankaragücü on matchday four of the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday night.
Just like OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi who netted for the first time this season on Sunday, September 3, Bright Osayi-Samuel was not picked by manager Jose Peseiro for the upcoming dead rubber 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against São Tomé and Príncipe.
Fenerbahce are unarguably one of the most in-form teams in Europe at the moment having won nine games on the bounce in the new season, with their Nigerian right-back participating in seven of those games, six of which he started.
Osayi-Samuel endeared himself to Super Eagles fans with his performances in the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau.
And he has started the season in fine form, having directly participated in four goals (1 goal, 3 assists) from his seven all-competition appearances after forcing his way into the Fenerbahce starting lineup.
It is believed that Osayi-Samuel fell down Peseiro's pecking order of right-backs due to the return of Ola Aina to the Premier League, with the Chelsea academy product catching the eye in his first three games for Nottingham Forest.
On top of that, Osayi-Samuel is not in tiptop condition at the moment as he is currently managing a groin injury.
The former Queens Park Rangers man was the hero for Fenerbahce as he scored the all-important goal on the hour mark when he slotted home from an acute angle.
