Another Victor, another Nigerian: Napoli eyeing move for Bayer striker as replacement for Chelsea target Osimhen
Published: December 20, 2023
Reigning Serie A champions Napoli are targeting a move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, according to reports.
Italian transfer market website Tuttomercatoweb says Napoli see the 22-year-old as a possible replacement for his compatriot Victor Osimhen who is heavily linked with a departure from the Diego Maradona Stadium next summer despite the striker on the verge of agreeing fresh terms with the Parthenopeans.
Osimhen's impressive displays for Napoli and the Nigerian national team have caught the eye of Premier League clubs, with Chelsea said to be in the driving seat for his signature but nothing is advanced at this stage.
Boniface is among the main candidates to replace Osimhen in the event that the number 9 departs Napoli and the other striker of interest to the clubs's recruitment team is Lille's Canada star Jonathan David.
Boniface transferred to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2023 for a fee in the region of 20 million euros and has had a blistering start to his career in Germany.
He has the ability to score goals and create them, registering 23 goals involvements (15 goals, 8 assists) in 22 all-competition appearances for Bayer Leverkusen so far this season.
Boniface is a similar player to Osimhen when it comes to physicality and can also play as a lone center forward.
The Real Sapphire product has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until June 2028.
