Transfer journalist claims Newcastle United remain interested in Super Eagles-eligible attacker

Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed that Newcastle remain interested in Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke and could offer Callum Wilson in exchange for the signing of the Super Eagles-eligible striker.

The Magpies had been reported to have enquired about Solanke but were informed about his unavailability for the current transfer window.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe wants to reunite with the 26-year-old whom he worked with while he was Bournemouth's manager and Wilson could be used as a sacrificial lamb for the deal to happen.

While the England international has served Tyneside well, he is aging and has become injury-prone, missing 14 games due to injury already this campaign.

Speaking in an interview with HITC via TEAMtalk, Bailey has claimed that Newcastle will be open to swapping Wilson for Solanke.

"Newcastle's recent approach for Solanke was denied at both ends very quickly.

"It may have been a bit of agent talk trying to generate something but Bournemouth are not willing to do business.

"I think he's one for the summer. Could I see Callum Wilson being sent to Bournemouth and send Solanke the other way? Easily.

"Callum Wilson, I imagine, will be moved on by Newcastle this summer."

With the Super Eagles-eligible striker likely to command a huge fee in the summer with his current deal with Bournemouth expiring in 2027, a swap deal could help reduce his valuation.

Arsenal and their North London counterparts Tottenham have also been linked with Solanke and the list of interested clubs might grow longer before the end of the season if he continues with his impressive form.

The former Liverpool forward has 12 goals in nineteen Premier League games this term.
