Super Eagles recovery session: Zaidu potential fitness doubt; Yusuf individual training; Ekong, Osimhen rested
Published: January 20, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the Super Eagles have started preparations for their final Group A fixture at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a recovery session held on Friday, a day after registering a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ivory Coast.
As is the norm, the players that started and played majority of the game against the Elephants took part in a recovery session while the others that didn't taste action or came in as late substitutes trained fully.
Apart from Alhassan Yusuf, Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro may have another fitness concern to contend with ahead of the game against Guinea-Bissau, with Zaidu Sanusi not participating in yesterday's workout.
The Porto left-back did have some injury issues during the game against Ivory Coast but was able to soldier on until the 80th minute when he made way for Kenneth Omeruo.
Zaidu was spotted on the bench with his hand in a sling during Friday's workout, sitting out the session along with Victor Osimhen and William Troost-Ekong.
Yusuf, who is in a race against time to recover from the injury he suffered in the Super Eagles opener versus Equatorial Guinea, continued his recovery programme with an individual session on the sidelines.
The recovery training session was lively and held in a friendly atmosphere as the players were more relaxed after the victory over Ivory Coast.
