'Chelsea have been good to Nigerian players' - Pundit says he does not want to see Osimhen in Man Utd
Published: January 26, 2024
Former Super Eagles Media Officer and ESPN pundit Colin Udoh believes that Victor Osimhen will be a good signing for Chelsea, and also explained why he would prefer the center forward to end up at the Blues instead of Manchester United.
Despite signing a new contract until the summer of 2026, it is possible the Nigeria international will no longer be a player of Napoli next season, taking into account the statements he released this week about his future.
Arsenal and Chelsea have both been credited with an interest in the reigning African Footballer of the Year, Manchester United were heavily linked with him last summer and Real Madrid are in the market for a marquee striker for next season.
Chelsea legends John Obi Mikel and Didier Drigba have been enticing Osimhen, whose footballing role model is the Ivorian, to prioritize a move to Stamford Bridge over his other suitors
Udoh noted that Chelsea have created a Nigerian legacy, with the club helping Celestine Babayaro, Mikel and Victor Moses develop and reach their full potential during their time at Stamford Bridge.
"Chelsea interestingly have been really good to Nigerian players," Udoh said on ESPN FC Extra Time.
"Celestine Babayaro has been there, did great; John Mikel Obi went there and did great and Mike Emenalo even when he wasn't a player was there and did good. His son is even now being fast-racked to the youth ranks at Chelsea.
"I think Chelsea will be a great place for Victor Osimhen. The one place I wouldn't like to see him go no matter what happens or no matter how much money they give him is Manchester United."
Osimhen could potentially be Chelsea's record signing if the deal goes through as the Serie A top scorer for 2022-2023 has a release clause of at least 120 million euros.
