Russia announce final 31-man squad for international friendly against Super Eagles
Published: May 26, 2025
Head coach of the Russia national team, Valery Karpin, has finalized a 31-man squad for the upcoming June training camp, which features international friendlies against Nigeria and Belarus.
The standout fixture will see Russia, the 2018 Fifa World Cup hosts, take on three-time African champions Nigeria at the iconic Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on June 6. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00 Nigerian time.
The squad list includes four goalkeepers, eleven defenders, thirteen midfielders, and three forwards.
Notably, Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Matvey Safonov and Sion midfielder Anton Miranchuk are the only foreign-based players named in the selection.
Initially, Zenit St. Petersburg goalkeeper Evgeny Latyshonok was part of the squad announced by the Russian Football Union on Sunday.
However, the shot-stopper has been withdrawn due to a muscle injury. In response, the coaching staff has drafted in Lokomotiv Moscow’s Anton Mitryushkin as his replacement.
The Russian national team will commence preparations for the double-header on May 31, setting up camp at their base in Novogorsk.
