Super Eagles striker Osimhen declines Al Hilal offer: Three key factors behind the decision

Napoli's star striker Victor Osimhen has turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal, opting to pursue his career in Europe.

The 26-year-old Nigerian international who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, with Al Hilal tabling a jaw-dropping €40m per season salary and a €75 million bid to Napol.

Despite the financial allure, Osimhen’s decision reflects a strategic focus on his long-term career goals.

Here are three key reasons behind his rejection of the Saudi giants’ proposal.

Firstly, Osimhen’s primary ambition is to remain competitive at the highest level of European football.

Sources close to the player, including Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba, emphasize that Osimhen prioritizes legacy and sporting challenge over financial gain.

His stellar loan spell at Galatasaray, where he scored 37 goals in 41 appearances to secure a domestic double, emphasize his desire to compete for major titles in Europe’s top leagues.

Secondly, the striker’s reluctance to relocate to the Middle East at this stage of his career is evident.

Despite Al Hilal’s persistent efforts—including a personal call from new coach Simone Inzaghi and a hefty tax-free salary—Osimhen, as reported by Football Italia and Sky Sport Italia, views a move to Saudi Arabia as premature, preferring to stay where he feels competitively challenged.

Finally, interest from top European clubs has bolstered his resolve. A top Italian club, alongside other European sides, is reportedly keen to secure Osimhen’s services, offering wages and a competitive environment that align with his aspirations.

This interest, combined with Galatasaray’s ambition to make his move permanent, provides viable alternatives to the Saudi proposal.

Osimhen’s decision to reject Al Hilal’s fifth offer, as confirmed by multiple sources, closes the door on a Middle East move for now.

With his focus firmly on Europe, the Nigerian star’s next destination remains a hot topic as the transfer window unfolds.
