After committing international future to Nigeria, MK Dons captain receives first Super Falcons call-up

MK Dons captain Favour Omenazu has received her first-ever international call-up after choosing to represent Nigeria over England, whom she is also eligible to play for.

Omenazu has been added to the Super Falcons squad for their 2028 Olympic qualifying double-header against Comoros.

MK Dons confirmed Omenazu’s invitation through its official channel, celebrating the defender’s selection for the important African qualifying fixtures.

Her call-up represents a significant milestone for the MK Dons captain, who will now have the opportunity to make her senior international debut.

Omenazu was not part of the initial squad announced for the Olympic qualifiers but was subsequently called up as Nigeria’s preparations for the two-legged tie continued.

The Super Falcons are scheduled to face Comoros on Friday, October 9, before the return leg on Tuesday, October 13. Nigeria received a bye into the second round of the African qualifiers, while Comoros advanced from the opening round.

The team have also been affected by several withdrawals ahead of the fixtures, with Asisat Oshoala excused from the assignment, while Ashleigh Plumptre, Oluwatosin Demehin and Flourish Sabastine are all set to miss the matches.

Nigeria are aiming to progress through the Olympic qualifying rounds and move closer to securing a place at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.

The Super Falcons will need to overcome Comoros across the two legs to advance in the competition.

Fifteen players are currently in camp after China-based forward Folashade Ijamilusi joined the squad in Ikenne on Tuesday morning. The players in camp are Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Joy Igbokwe, Fatimoh Solaty, Christiana Uzoma, Blessing Nkor, Valentina Uroko, Glory Edet, Sandra John, Shukurat Oladipo, Shakirat Moshood, Glory Ogbonna, Favour Omenazu, Suliat Abideen and Ijamilusi.

More players are expected to arrive, including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Jennifer Echegini, Michelle Alozie, Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne, Gift Monday, Joy Omewa, Janet Akekoromowei and Uchenna Kanu, as preparations continue for Friday’s first-leg encounter.
