After losing Chido Obi, Arsenal working on deal to sign Man Utd defender Ogunneye

Premier League champions Arsenal are reportedly working on a deal to sign Manchester United defender Habeeb Ogunneye during the current summer window.

For Arsenal, securing Ogunneye’s signature would represent another important move after the club lost two promising youngsters, Ayden Heaven and striker Chido Obi, to Manchester United in recent seasons.

Ogunneye, who spent the first part of last season on loan at Newport County, has attracted the interest of the Gunners as they look to strengthen their youth setup with promising young talents.

The 20-year-old defender enjoyed a decent spell with Newport County, providing one assist in 21 appearances across all competitions before being recalled by Manchester United during the winter window in January.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are showing interest in the young defender, while also monitoring the situation of young forward James Scanlon.

The Gunners are reportedly confident of securing both deals as they continue their aggressive recruitment of promising youngsters during the current summer window.

Despite his talent, Ogunneye is yet to make his first-team debut for Manchester United, although he has been included in several matchday squads, including the FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry City in 2024.

Arsenal have established a reputation for giving opportunities to young players, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman progressing through the club in recent years.

The young defender will reportedly consider the move as he looks to secure a pathway to first-team football at the Emirates Stadium and continue his development at the highest level.
