Akor Adams and Yeboah at centre of penalty drama in Venezia's defeat to Lazio

Super Eagles forward Akor Adams was involved in a penalty drama during Venezia’s 2-0 loss to Lazio on Saturday, with the Nigerian initially prepared to take the spot-kick before coach Giovanni Stroppa changed the taker, according to a report by SOS Fanta.

Venezia were awarded a penalty in the first half, presenting them with an opportunity to take the lead against Lazio.

Adams was ready to step up, but Stroppa intervened from the touchline and instructed John Yeboah to take responsibility instead. 

Yeboah took the penalty, but Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas made an important save to deny the Venezia forward and keep the score level.

Adams was reportedly unhappy with the change after being prepared to take the spot-kick. 

The missed opportunity proved costly for Venezia as Lazio improved after the break and eventually secured a 2-0 victory.

Mattia Zaccagni converted a penalty in the 51st minute before Tijjani Noslin doubled the visitors’ advantage nine minutes later. 

Adams will now turn his attention to international duty after being included in Eric Chelle’s 24-man Super Eagles squad for Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
