Nigeria’s Falconets have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup following a commanding 3-0 victory over England on Thursday at Bielsko-Biala Stadium in Poland.
Nigeria made a bright start to the Round of 16 encounter and took the lead in the eighth minute through Tosin Rafiu.
The forward’s early strike gave the Falconets an important advantage as they looked to secure their place in the last eight.
England tried to respond, but Nigeria maintained their organisation and went into the half-time break with their lead intact.
Christiana Uzoma also produced a crucial moment during the opening period by saving a penalty to preserve Nigeria’s advantage.
The Falconets doubled their lead shortly after the restart when Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei found the net in the 47th minute.
Her goal gave Nigeria further control and put England under increased pressure.
Nigeria continued to threaten as the second half progressed and eventually added a third goal in the 73rd minute.
Mary Mamudu completed the scoring, putting the Falconets 3-0 ahead and leaving England with a difficult task in the closing stages.
Nigeria will face the winner of Poland versus Colombia in the quarter-finals.
That Round of 16 tie is scheduled for Thursday evening, with the quarter-final set for Sunday, September 20, in Łódź.
