Nigeria’s Flamingos continued their impressive start to the 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup with a 4-2 victory over Ghana's Black Maidens on Friday, maintaining their strong push in the competition in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Flamingos took control of the encounter in the 33rd minute when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi produced a fine strike to put Nigeria ahead.
The goal gave the Nigerian side a deserved advantage as they looked to build on their emphatic 5-0 victory over Niger in their opening match.
Nigeria doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time, with captain Harmony Chidi finding the net to give the Flamingos a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Ghana were handed a route back into the contest shortly after the restart when Nigeria defender Elizabeth Adesuyi was shown a straight red card in the 59th minute for a foul on a Ghanaian attacker while she was the last defender.
The Black Maidens immediately capitalised on their numerical advantage, with captain Seidatu Wahab scoring directly from the resulting free-kick in the 62nd minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
However, Nigeria responded strongly despite being down to 10 players.
Mary Dunstan restored the Flamingos’ two-goal cushion in the 70th minute after beating her defender and dribbling past the goalkeeper before finishing brilliantly.
Harmony Chidi thought she had added a fourth three minutes later, but the captain’s effort was ruled out for offside.
Nigeria eventually added a fourth goal in the 87th minute when Kaosarat Akanji found the net from a free-kick to make it 4-1.
Ghana pulled another goal back in the 90th minute through Gloria A. Ameaa, but the Flamingos held on to secure another victory in the competition.
