Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy has revealed why Super Eagles central defender Gabriel Osho was not substituted during the 3-2 victory over League Two side Swindon in the EFL Cup on Saturday.
The Nigerian defender produced an underwhelming performance at the heart of defence for the Championship club, scoring an own goal during the encounter.
Osho put the ball into his own net while attempting to stop a cross from Mitchel Clark early in the contest, giving Swindon the lead.
He also appeared to be struggling with tiredness towards the end of the match, with Barry-Murphy admitting that the former Luton Town defender should have been replaced.
Speaking after the match, Barry-Murphy admitted that he would have taken Osho off in the second half but was forced to keep him on due to the lack of defensive cover.
"I should have taken him off in the game, he was quite sore towards the end," Barry-Murphy said via BBC.
"We just had no centre-back cover on the bench, so took a bit of a risk there and I hope he's okay in the days coming up."
Osho joined Cardiff City after spending time with French club Auxerre and was a key figure in their promotion to the Championship last campaign.
The 27-year-old will be disappointed with his performance against the League Two club and will be keen to improve his display as Cardiff City prepare for life in the Championship.
