'I won't lie' - Getafe's Super Eagles midfielder Uche releases emotional injury update

Super Eagles midfielder Chrisantus Uche has opened up on the serious knee injury he suffered during Getafe’s pre-season clash against Monaco, describing the setback as one of the toughest moments of his career.

The Nigerian midfielder picked up the injury in the second half after a heavy challenge from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa and was forced to leave the pitch on a stretcher.

Although initial examinations suggested that Uche had suffered a severe bruise to the joint, further tests revealed a more serious problem. An MRI scan reportedly showed multiple injuries to his right knee, including significant damage to his ligaments and meniscus.

The Nigerian International is now expected to undergo surgery in the coming days before starting what could be a lengthy rehabilitation process.

In a post on Instagram, Uche described the injury as one of the most difficult moments of his career.

“Today is one of the hardest days of my career. Following the latest medical tests, it has been confirmed that my knee injury is serious and that I will have to face a long recovery process,” Uche said.

The midfielder admitted that being forced to spend an extended period away from football would be difficult, but insisted that he was determined to remain positive throughout his recovery.

“I won't lie: accepting that I will be away from the pitch for a while is tough. Football is my passion, my job, and what makes me happiest, and now I have to face a situation I never imagined. But challenges are also part of the journey.”

Uche also vowed to work hard during his rehabilitation with the aim of returning to action as soon as possible.

“I am going to face this period with strength, patience, and determination, working every day to get back to doing what I love most: playing football, he added.

The Nigerian also thanked his family, teammates, coaching staff, medical team and the entire Getafe family for their support, while appreciating fans who had sent messages of encouragement following the injury.

“I want to thank my family, my teammates, the coaching staff, the medical team, and the entire Getafe CF family from the bottom of my heart for standing by me.

“And a special thanks to all the fans who have sent me messages of support. This is just a chapter, not the end of the story,” Uche concluded.

The injury represents a major setback for the Super Eagles midfielder, who was hoping to revive his career after a difficult spell at Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old will now focus on his recovery and rehabilitation, with the aim of returning to full fitness and resuming his football career.
