Guinea-Bissau head coach Emiliano Té has admitted that defeating Nigeria will be a difficult task but insisted that his team has the determination to secure all three points when both sides meet in Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Djurtus will host the Super Eagles at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau in their second Group L qualifying fixture. Both teams began their campaigns with victories, with Guinea-Bissau defeating Tanzania 2-0 away from home, while Nigeria came from behind to beat Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo.
The two teams therefore enter the encounter with three points each.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Monday, Té acknowledged Nigeria’s record in previous meetings between the two nations but insisted that past results would not determine Tuesday’s encounter.
“We know it’s difficult to beat Nigeria, but it’s not impossible. We’re not going to look at the history of matches between the two teams," he said as quoted by Odemocratagb.
"They have the advantage, with three wins, while we’ve only managed one, but that’s part of history."
The Guinea-Bissau coach stressed that the circumstances surrounding the upcoming fixture are different and that his players would approach the contest with confidence as they seek another important victory in the qualifying campaign.
"Today, the motivation is different, the moment is different, and the objectives are also different. Therefore, we will approach this game with great composure and courage to win the three points."
Nigeria have won three of the four previous official senior international meetings between the two countries, while Guinea-Bissau recorded their only victory in the fixture in March 2023.
