Rafiu Durosinmi has opened up on his rapid adaptation to KRC Genk, revealing that the Belgian club has surpassed his expectations since his summer move from Pisa.
The Super Eagles forward has made an impressive start to life in Belgium, scoring five goals in his opening six league appearances for Genk.
Durosinmi also revealed that fellow Nigeria international Paul Onuachu played a role in his decision to join Genk after the striker sought his opinion on his next move.
Recalling their conversation in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, Durosinmi explained that Onuachu was interested in why he had initially chosen Pisa and wanted to know about the options available to him.
“He wondered why I had chosen Pisa in January and was curious about the options I had now. When I mentioned Genk, he immediately said that it was the best step for me,” Durosinmi said, as quoted by Voetbalprimeur.
The forward then explained how Onuachu's recommendation influenced his final decision to join the Belgian club.
“That really gave me the final push to choose this club. And to be honest: the club really is fantastic. I had expected that because of all the good stories, but it has exceeded my expectations,” he added.
Durosinmi has also been impressed by the environment at Genk, particularly the fact that English is widely spoken at the club.
He also had positive words for head coach Jess Thorup, describing him as “top-notch”.
Reflecting on how quickly he settled into his new surroundings, the Nigerian striker said: “This is the first club where I was completely settled within a week.”
His strong beginning has also encouraged Durosinmi to set a personal goalscoring target for the campaign. “At least 20 goals this season would be fantastic,” he said.
Despite his impressive club form, Durosinmi was not included in Nigeria’s current 24-man squad for the September 2027 AFCON qualifiers or the separate 24-man squad for the October 6 friendly against Russia.
