Former Leicester City winger Matt Piper has heaped praise on Caleb Okoli's decisive strike which helped the Foxes secure a tough 1-0 victory over Northampton Town and progress to the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Okoli, who is also eligible to represent the Super Eagles, opened the scoring for the former Premier League champions with a powerful header in the first half.
The Nigerian-eligible centre-back rose highest to connect with a precise corner kick delivery from Luke Thomas in the 15th minute and put Leicester ahead.
Commenting on the goal on BBC Radio, Piper praised the Foxes for making an early impact from a set-piece situation.
“It is nice to see that the first goal is from a corner, as we haven't seen many set piece goals in recent years,” Piper said. “It has been a downfall of us in previous seasons, and so it is great to see so early on.”
Aside from his goal, Okoli also produced an impressive performance defensively, winning 100 per cent of his ground duels while making four recoveries, three clearances and one interception to help Leicester keep a clean sheet and secure their place in the next round.
The strong centre-back will be keen to continue his solid performances and help lead the Foxes back to the Championship next campaign.
