Fifa has opened disciplinary proceedings against Katsina United FC over the club's failure to fully comply with a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) award ordering it to pay N28 million to former coach Tony Tope Bulus.
In a communication dated September 11, 2026, with reference number FDD-28984, Fifa informed Katsina United that its failure to comply with the CAS award potentially constitutes a breach of Article 21 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code — Failure to Respect Decisions.
The latest development follows the CAS award of June 30, 2026 (CAS 2024/A/10789), which ordered Katsina United to pay Bulus N28 million in compensation for the wrongful termination of his employment contract dated August 10, 2023.
Katsina United's continued failure to satisfy the award has now exposed the club to further financial and sporting consequences.
Fifa's Disciplinary Committee Secretariat has proposed an additional fine of $5,000, payable to Fifa, while giving the club a final 30-day deadline to pay the fine and provide proof of payment.
The club has also been granted a final 30-day period, once the proposal becomes final and binding, to settle the N28 million owed to Bulus.
Should the club remain in default after that period, Fifa states that, at the creditor's request, a ban on registering new players will be imposed until the full amount due is paid.
Speaking exclusively following the latest Fifa communication, Dr Johnny-Precious Ogbah of Activity Chambers, who represents the coach, urged Katsina United to bring the matter to an immediate conclusion.
"Katsina United failed to pay the judgment sum, they have now incurred an additional $5,000 penalty from Fifa.
"I urge the club to make haste and pay the outstanding sums due to Fifa and our client within the extension granted to them.
"Failure to comply could expose the club to serious sporting and financial consequences, including a ban on registering new players and further sanctions."
The Fifa communication was copied to Tony Tope Bulus, Johnny-Precious Ogbah and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Under Article 58 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, Katsina United was given five days from the date of notification to reject the proposed sanction and submit its position to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.
Fifa further stated that if the club accepts the proposal or fails to respond within the stipulated period, the proposed sanction will become final and binding.
The latest development increases the pressure on Katsina United to resolve the long-running dispute, with the outstanding N28 million CAS award now accompanied by FIFA disciplinary proceedings and a proposed $5,000 fine.
