Lazio have made a fresh decision on Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru as the Italian club continues to take a cautious approach following his injury setback, according to a report by Lazio News 24.
Dele-Bashiru will not feature in Lazio’s friendly against Arezzo on Sunday despite making progress in his recovery.
The midfielder has overcome the physical problem that recently kept him out of training, but coach Gennaro Gattuso has decided not to rush him back into action.
The Nigerian suffered the injury during Lazio’s opening Serie A fixture of the season against Bologna on August 24.
He started the match and played 54 minutes before being substituted after picking up the problem.
Medical examinations later confirmed a grade-one hamstring strain, with an initial recovery period of around 15 to 20 days.
The setback forced Dele-Bashiru to miss Lazio’s subsequent fixtures as the club managed his recovery.
His absence also affected his international commitments, with the midfielder omitted from Nigeria’s squad for the opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
Gattuso has continued to exercise caution over the 25-year-old, previously confirming that Lazio preferred to wait rather than risk an early return.
The midfielder is now expected to return to full training next week as Lazio prepare for their upcoming competitive fixtures.
