Nigeria’s Flamingos have been crowned 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup champions after defeating Togo 4-0 in their final match in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday.
The victory completed a perfect campaign for the Flamingos, who won all five of their matches to finish top of the standings and lift the regional title.
Captain Chidera Harmony opened the scoring in the 15th minute from the penalty spot after Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was fouled inside the box.
Harmony doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 35th minute, again converting from the spot after Adegbuyi was fouled for a second time in the penalty area.
The Flamingos maintained their two-goal advantage after the interval before substitute Oluebube Umejiaku added a third goal in the 67th minute with an impressive finish.
Adegbuyi, who had won both penalties for Nigeria, eventually got her name on the scoresheet in the 89th minute to complete the 4-0 victory for the Flamingos.
The result means Nigeria finished the tournament with a perfect record of five wins from five matches.
The triumph also comes at an important stage of the Flamingos’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, which begins next month.
Nigeria will face Poland, defending champions North Korea and Puerto Rico in Group B at the global tournament.
The Flamingos are scheduled to open their World Cup campaign against Poland on October 17.
Nigeria had already secured their place at the World Cup before the WAFU-B tournament and will now head to Morocco as regional champions.
