Nigeria could face a setback in their hopes of securing the services of Liverpool wonderkid Rio Ngumoha after the highly-rated forward was named in the latest England squad, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel has selected 27 players for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against world champions Spain, Czechia and Croatia, with Ngumoha included in the squad.
The dual-national attacker, who is eligible to represent the Super Eagles through his father, trained with England ahead of the 2026 World Cup and went on to make his senior debut off the bench in a 1-0 victory over New Zealand in June 2026.
That solitary appearance did not cap-tie the London-born winger to England as it came in a friendly.
However, Ngumoha would no longer be eligible to represent the Super Eagles in the future if Tuchel gives him playing time in three of the four matches England are scheduled to play during the first international break of the season.
Under Fifa'ss eligibility rules, a player can switch national teams provided they have made no more than three senior international appearances, all of which must have come before their 21st birthday.
The 18-year-old previously represented England at U15, U16, U17 and U18 levels and is now being fast-tracked into the senior setup following his breakthrough at Liverpool.
Ngumoha has made 35 appearances for the Reds, scoring twice, and continues to attract attention as one of English football's most promising young talents.
The latest England squad also features Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze, two players Nigeria previously tried to convince to switch international allegiance during Amaju Pinnick's tenure as Nigeria Football Federation president.
