'Nosa possesses excellent qualities' - Former Arsenal captain hails Lorient's brand new signing

Through a press release, French Ligue 1 club FC Lorient have confirmed the signing of Italian-born centre-back of Nigerian descent Nosa Obaretin.

The 23-year-old has joined Lorient on a season-long loan from Napoli, with an option to make the move permanent included in the agreement.

Having risen through the ranks at AC Milan before joining Napoli, Obaretin progressed through the Italian youth system before making his senior debut.

The Forlì-born defender spent the last two seasons on loan at Serie B clubs Bari and Empoli, making 56 appearances across all competitions.

Obaretin is set to become the fourth Nigerian to represent Lorient in recent years, following in the footsteps of Super Eagles duo Innocent Bonke and Terem Moffi, as well as left-back Isaac James.

Speaking about the signing, former Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny, now Lorient’s sporting director, believes the club provides the ideal environment for Nosa to continue his development.

"Nosa possesses excellent qualities in duels, in reading the game, and in using the ball. He still has significant room for improvement, and we are convinced that FC Lorient is an environment that will allow him to take further steps forward," Koscielny stated.

"We are very happy to welcome him and look forward to seeing him play in our colors."

For the 2026-2027 season, Nosa has been allocated the number 55 jersey at Lorient.
