Super Eagles central defender Semi Ajayi has missed out on the Player of the Matchweek award despite being nominated following his impressive performance for Hull City.
Ajayi was among the seven players shortlisted for the Matchweek 1 award after helping Hull City produce one of the biggest shocks of the opening weekend with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United.
The Nigeria international made a dream return to Premier League football, scoring Hull's opening goal in the 17th minute before helping his side keep a clean sheet against Michael Carrick's team.
The defender reacted quickest to a rebound inside the Manchester United penalty area and fired Hull into the lead, setting his team on course for a memorable victory. He was later substituted in the 64th minute.
Ajayi's display earned him a place among the nominees for the Premier League's official Player of the Matchweek award, alongside Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Manchester City's Rayan Cherki, Brighton's Jack Hinshelwood, Brentford's Mamadou Sangare, Ipswich Town's Julio Enciso and Leeds United's Anton Stach.
However, Palmer claimed the award after receiving 40 per cent of the fans' vote.
The Chelsea playmaker played a decisive role in his side's 3-2 win over Fulham, assisting Joao Pedro's opener before scoring the winning goal.
