EXCLUSIVE: Rennes Release Ejike Uzoenyi
Published: July 23, 2013
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that French club Rennes have chosen not to extend the contract of Ejike Uzoenyi.
Ejike Uzoenyi was absent from Rennes pre - season training camp in Carnac, suggesting that he has been deemed surplus to requirement by new gaffer Philippe Montanier.
It is now confirmed that the 25 - year - old winger has returned to parent club Enugu Rangers as he awaits other options in the summer transfer window.
In January, Rennes quietly offered Ejike Uzoenyi a six - month temporary contract, but in the off season the club parted company with coach Frederic Antonetti, the number one fan of the Nigeria international.
Last season, he managed just one appearance for Rennes in the French championship.
All this contributed to the club's decision not to sign him on a permanent basis from Enugu Rangers.
Nevertheless, being a Nigeria international, an African Cup of Nations winner for that matter, Uzoenyi is still wanted by teams in Europe and his representatives are mulling over some offers.
