Michael Emenalo : We Bought Samuel Eto'o For His Experience
Published: September 09, 2013
Former Nigeria international Michael Emenalo, who is now the Technical Director of Chelsea, has commented on the transfer of Cameroon superstar Samuel Eto'o to the Stamford Bridge outfit.
It was not hidden that one of the priorities of Jose Mourinho in the outgoing summer transfer market to bolster the offense was Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.
But having missed out on their primary target, Chelsea offered a contract to Samuel Eto'o, who joined them from Anzhi.
'' In the case of Samuel Eto'o, it was an open secret that we wanted Wayne Rooney and I don't need to explain what the idea is behind wanting a player like Rooney.
'' But we are not desperate and we know for the future we have Romelu Lukaku and incredible hope that he will come through and lead the line.
'' So if we weren't able to get Rooney and we had Lukaku, Ba and Torres, we felt comfortable with them but we also felt comfortable to bring Eto'o to give us a little bit of competition, because we wanted to freshen up that position,'' Emenalo told the official website of Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Samuel Eto'o, according to French media, has decided to quit the Indomitable Lions citing personal reasons.
