Nigeria Federation To Monitor Golden Eaglets Contracts
Published: October 18, 2013
Allnigeriasoccer.com previously reported that Europe big guns Chelsea, Anderlecht, VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Moenchengladbach have sent scouts to run the rule over the Nigeria Under 17 team.
Per FIFA rules, players yet to attain the maturity age of 18 cannot be transferred internationally, as the world football governing body moved to stem the rampant cases of trafficking in underage players from the third world.
Nduka Ugbade, who skippered the Golden Eaglets at the inaugural Fifa Under 17 World Cup in China, has stated that the Nigeria Football Federation will monitor the players who intend to sign contracts with foreign teams during the tournament in United Arab Emirates.
Speaking to Brila FM, Ugbade, one of the assistant coaches of the Golden Eaglets said: “ We have said none of the players should sign any contract for now because they are still underage but whatever contract their guardian or parents sign will be closely monitored by the Nigeria Football Federation.
“We are doing this at this time in order not to distract the players and the psychology of the team as a whole.”
The Nigeria Under 17s are in the same group with defending champions Mexico, Sweden and Iraq.
