Never been seen before: George's goal helps Chelsea set Champions League record in win v Ajax
Published: October 23, 2025
Tyrique George's goal contributed to Chelsea setting a new UEFA Champions League record on Wednesday night as the world champions thrashed Ajax Amsterdam 5-1 at Stamford Bridge.
George needed less than three minutes to make an impact after coming off the bench to replace Marc Guiu at half-time, finding the net to complete Chelsea's dominant display.
The 19-year-old forward wrapped up the scoring when he pounced on a loose ball after fellow substitute Andrey Santos attempted to weave his way through the Ajax defence, with the Brazilian's effort deflecting kindly into George's path to leave the goalkeeper wrong-footed.
According to Chelsea's official website, the Academy graduate was one of three teenagers to get on the scoresheet for the Blues, a feat no other club has ever achieved in the Champions League, alongside Marc Guiu and Estevao Willian.
It was George's first goal in the Champions League, coming in just his second appearance in the competition.
Earlier this year, in June, George made history at the Fifa Club World Cup, becoming Chelsea's youngest-ever goalscorer in the tournament at 19 years and 141 days, surpassing the previous record held by Liam Delap (22 years and 137 days).
Last season, George became the youngest Nigeria-eligible player to score for Chelsea in European competition when he found the net against Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Conference League on April 10.
Just ten days later, he made history again, becoming the youngest Nigeria-eligible player to score for Chelsea in the Premier League after a brilliant strike against Fulham.
Chelsea's other goals in the win over Ajax were scored by Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández in the first half.
