Nosa Igiebor Makes Offensive Gesture To Maccabi Tel Aviv Fans After He Was Racially Insulted
Published: December 09, 2014
Nigeria international Nosa Igiebor claims he was racially abused by Maccabi Tel Aviv fans in the wake of the club’s 1 - 1 draw with Beitar Jerusalem on Monday evening.
And in an act reminiscent of the incident that happened on April 12, 2013 during the derby between Real Betis and Sevilla, the attacking midfielder made an offensive gesture to the supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv, who had confronted him after the game.
“In my opinion, they cursed me because I’m black, so I responded. They called racial epithets against me and I just reacted.
“I do not think they were Maccabi fans supporters that encouraged me throughout the game. There are about five or six people who shouted against me,” Nosa Igibeor was quoted as saying by ynet.co.il.
The Maccabi Tel Aviv number 40 added : “If they call themselves Maccabi fans, they can not behave like that. In my opinion, the way in which I responded is best.
“They should remove racist minority of the lots, the official should treat such things, these statements are not allowed in football. They swear at me, just me, my name is black and snarling, this is racism.”
The Israeli newspaper has reported that Maccabi Tel Aviv will not internally discipline Nosa Igibeor because he was provoked by some violent fans.
