36yo emerges as leading candidate to coach Fernandez and Meghoma at Rangers

Danny Rohl is reportedly in pole position to be appointed as the new Rangers head coach.

The Scottish giants have been without a manager since parting ways with Russell Martin following a disappointing start to the season, with names such as Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat also linked to the post.

According to The Athletic, the Light Blues are on the verge of naming 36-year-old Rohl as their new coach.

The German has already arrived in Glasgow to finalise terms with the Premiership club.

Should talks proceed smoothly, Rohl is expected to begin work with his new squad, including Nigerian defenders Emmanuel Fernandez and Jayden Meghoma, as early as this week.

Fernandez joined Rangers from Peterborough United during the summer transfer window, while Meghoma arrived on a season-long loan from Premier League side Brentford.

Under Martin, Fernandez made just two appearances, featuring in both the Premiership and League Cup, whereas Meghoma quickly established himself in the first team, registering ten appearances so far.

Röhl has been out of work since voluntarily leaving Sheffield Wednesday in mid-July but could make his debut in the Rangers dugout on Thursday when the club face Brann in the Europa League.

The 36-year-old boasts an impressive résumé, having previously served as assistant coach at Bayern Munich, Southampton and RB Leipzig.

Rangers currently sit sixth in the Scottish Premiership and are yet to record a point in the Europa League after two matches.
