The Chairman of the Nigeria Women Football League Dilichukwu Onyedinma has congratulated Asisat Oshoala for emerging as the African Women Player and Young Player of the year 2014.
Addressing the media on Tuesday in Abuja, the Board Member of NFF said the feat of the Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt player was achieved because of her discipline and commitment to her game.
She was full of praises to the Super Falcons for emerging as the best Women team in the continent .
“This our interaction is to enable us celebrate our feat at the last GLO/CAF Award held last week in Lagos, where our girl Asisat Oshoala won both the Women player of the year, and the Young player of the year.
“To crown it all, the Super Falcons won the best Women team in 2014. This is a great achievement considering the fact that this is the first time that a single player is winning the two awards at the same time, and moreover, this player is one of the numerous stars we have in our local league.
“This was also justified by the performance of the Super Falcons at the Africa Women Championship in Namibia where they reclaimed AFCON Women title for the seventh time, with players virtually selected from the local league, won the Best Women team in Africa.
“Not forgetting that our National Women U.20 was nominated for the same award. You will recall that that team was made up of 99 percent of our league players, and they played up to the finals of the FIFA U.20 Women World cup in Canada. This has further justify that our league did excellently well in the year 2014,”she said.
