Russian-born striker who wants to play for Super Eagles scores 3 goals in 5 days for Kayserispor
Published: October 25, 2025
Russian-born striker German Onugkha is enjoying a rich vein of form, having netted three goals in his last two appearances for Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig.
Onugkha began the season with FC Copenhagen but struggled for regular playing time at the Danish champions before sealing a permanent move to Kayserispor on transfer deadline day in Türkiye.
After a quiet start, failing to score in his first four outings, the 29-year-old opened his account as a substitute on October 19, finding the net in a 3–1 defeat to Samsunspor.
Five days later, restored to the starting line-up, he repaid manager Radomir Djalović's faith with a well-taken second-half brace in a 2–2 draw against Fatih Karagümrük.
Born in Moscow to a Russian mother and Nigerian father, Onugkha made headlines in September 2024 after turning down a call-up to the Russian national team for a friendly against Vietnam, declaring his desire to represent Nigeria instead.
He revealed plans to visit the Nigerian Embassy in Copenhagen to initiate the process of obtaining a Nigerian passport.
During his spell in Denmark, Onugkha won the Danish Superliga Golden Boot for the 2023-24 season with 15 goals in 31 matches and earning the Player of the Month award in March 2025.
The centre forward has also played for teams in his native Russia and Israel.
