I Could have Been A Footballer, Says Oyo Crime Buster, Dimka
Published: May 27, 2015
A notable crime fighter in Oyo State Police Command Usman Dimka has said he could have been a footballer if he had not been discouraged by his Dad but attributed his gallantry to his active sports background.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police who has recently been saddled with another responsibility by the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Kastina as the officer-in-charge of the newly formed Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Oyo State Police command said remaining fit physically was part of what he derived from the regular body workout.
The Officer-in-charge of the Oyo State Skynet Squad, the Police formation that had foiled many robbery operations in the state under the leadership of Dimka, added that sport has been an integral part of the Nigerian Police with the force producing many notable sports men and women for the nation.
“I was a good footballer but my father always discourage me from playing football, may be because I have been destined to be a police officer, because if I were a footballer, I don’t think I might have been able to help my society as much as this.
“I can’t be a footballer to protect lives and properties, so I am sure my dad knew the best for me, he must have thought football might not make me to go to school, so he discourages me, but once a while.
“I still found time to play football, sometimes I played table-tennis, and I also played volleyball very well. Above all I don’t joke with my physical exercise, you know as a Police you need to be fit at all times so I jogged almost every morning to keep fit”, said the super cop who had received Presidential Honour for Courage from President Goodluck Jonathan after he faced about 12 robbers alone and killed seven.
