Published: August 25, 2015
The Proprietor of Nigeria Premier League club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah of Nnewi Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah has advised the various Football Associations in country to emulate the Board of the FCT Football Association for its initiative in introducing the Principals Cup for all the secondary schools in the Capital city.
Dr Ubah spoke in Nnewi when some members of the FCT Principals Cup committee visited him in his home town.
“I have decided to key into the programmes of the FCT Football Association, because they have a genuine interest and passionate interest in developing the game of football from the grassroots.
“This also becomes necessary because, I am a product of such grassroots football competitions.
“I was a member of the Anambra State Academical team, and the Anambra State YSFON team.
“My breakthrough in life came through my involvement in these grassroots programmes. So, I am always ready to assist in development of the game at that level,” Ifeanyi Ubah said.
He continued : “I want to use this medium to call on every other State Football Associations to revert back to these grassroot programmes, because that is the only place where we can get the real raw talents.
“I once again commend the FCT FA for their initiative on the competition, and their desire to look beyond the government funding.
“That shows their sincerity in sustaining the programme, and passion of purpose”.
He thanked the FCT FA for the award that was given to him last month, saying that that was one of the first awards he accepted.
“I don’t collect awards, neither do I collect Chieftaincy titles, but I have to accept that of the FCT FA because this has to do with my contributions to empowering of the Youths through sports. I thank you very much for that gesture,” he said
Earlier, the Chairman of the FCT Principals Cup Committee Mr Patrick Ngwaogu had congratulated Dr Ifeanyi Ubah for his installation as the National Patron of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), and said that that has justified the merit award given to him by the FCT FA for his contributions to sports development and youth empowerment in country.
He further intimated him on the concept of the FCT Principals cup, and the desire to ensure its sustainability.
He used the opportunity to invite him to opening ceremony of the competition which has been slated for Tuesday 12th October 2015.
