Kalmar To Make Announcement On New Liverpool Signing Awoniyi In Few Days Time
Published: August 31, 2015
Taiwo Awoniyi has penned a contract with Liverpool, who have immediately loaned the striker out to 2 Bundesliga side FSV Frankfurt as he is not eligible to be granted a work permit to play in the English Premier League.
Before the transfer was made official by The Reds on Monday evening, Kalmar sporting director Thomas Andersson Borstam reacted to reports the Nigeria youth international was on his way to Anfield.
The bone of contention is Awoniyi had signed a preliminary contract with Kalmar in 2014, meaning the Swedish club are due financial compensation in the event that the player and his minders do not honour the agreement, which is the case now.
“ There may be an answer soon. That said, you ’ll have to wait a few days for an answer there,” Thomas Andersson Borstam told 24kalmar.se.
Taiwo Awoniyi was linked with possible moves to teams in Greece, Tunisia, Austria, France and Portugal before his transfer to Liverpool was announced today.
