Mission Is Not Impossible! Chelsea Star Mikel Says Super Eagles Have To Fight
Published: March 29, 2016
Chelsea star John Obi Mikel has acknowledged that the Super Eagles face an uphill task to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations following the withdrawal of Chad from the qualifiers.
Needing a victory to progress, the central midfielder and fullback Elderson Echiejile were part of the squad that defeated Kenya 3-2 away and qualified for the 2010 World Cup.
“We are in the same situation now as we were then going to Nairobi. I just have it in my mind that it can be done, that we have done it before,” said John Obi Mikel to thenff.com.
“Yes, we will go out there on Tuesday night and do exactly what we have to do: fight.
“It is not going to be easy but I keep remembering what we did in Nairobi that evening and I know it can be done.”
Samson Siasia’s charges lie second in the standings with two points from two matches and wouldn’t qualify for the 2017 AFCON if they lose to Egypt on Tuesday night.
