Real Salt Lake Midfielder Sunday Stephen Recalls Experience With Spain Youth Setup
Published: April 15, 2016
Real Salt Lake’s Sunday Stephen has thanked the Royal Spanish Football Federation for giving him the opportunity to represent Spain at youth level prior to making his solitary appearance for the Super Eagles to date.
Born in Lagos, Stephen moved to Spain when he was a teenager before he was granted citizenship after spending the required number of years in the country.
“Wow it was a great experience for me, representing Spain at the U-19, U-20 World Cup and U-21 (levels), and then the senior Nigerian team,” Sunday Stephen told mlssoccer.com.
“I am so glad for the opportunity that the Spanish government and the Football Association gave to me to showcase myself and for people to know me.
“I am very glad and happy to be what I am today.”
The highlight of the former Valencia midfielder’s career with the Spanish youth setup was featuring at the 2007 Fifa Under 20 World Cup, where he played their first four games during the tourney in Canada.
