Lillestrom Striker Fred Friday Rejects Move To Spartak Moscow
Published: May 15, 2016
Lillestrom striker Fred Friday rejected the chance to join Russian Premier League outfit Spartak Moscow last summer because he wanted to get used to the rigours of European football before taking the next step in his career.
His intermediary Atta Aneke has also revealed that a number of teams based in Asia, Holland and Belgium are monitoring his performances in the Norwegian Tippeligaen.
“They were very serious about signing him last season, but we decided that it was best for him to stay an extra season in Norway and continue with his development, ” Aneke told ESPN FC.
“There is interest in him from Holland, Belgium and Italy. There have also been offers from the MLS and China, but we want him to have a good European foundation.”
The 20-year-old Friday has caught the eye this season, and had found the net in each of his last seven games in the top division prior to Wednesday’s 1-0 win against SK Brann.
The Gabros FC product trained with Nigeria’s Olympic National Team in 2014 but has not debuted for the country at any level.
