Leicester City, Southampton & Charlton Explored Possibility Of Signing Kelechi Nwakali
Published: May 16, 2016
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that a number of English teams had explored the possibility of poaching Flying Eagles skipper Kelechi Nwakali from ASJ/Diamond Academy before he traveled to London to discuss terms with Arsenal.
It has come to light that Barclays Premier League champions Leicester City, Southampton and Charlton Athletic were interested in the signature of the central midfielder even before he traveled to England to undergo trials with Manchester City.
But the three clubs later dropped their pursuit of Kelechi Nwakali after negotiations between Diamond Academy and the American-based agent that brokered the deal met a brick wall.
Diamond Academy had promised the well known intermediary the right to manage the affairs of Nwakali but reneged on the agreement, claiming that an English-based Nigerian agent Frankie Stephen Ovotu was the player’s representative.
In addition, the 17-year-old was proposed to West Ham and Chelsea after he shot to prominence at the 2015 Fifa Under 17 World Cup but nothing came out of it.
