Promising Nigerian Midfielder Signs New Deal At Chelsea
Published: July 01, 2016
The promising Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe has secured a scholarship deal with Chelsea eight years after joining the Academy.
The 16-year-old was one of the ten new scholars that started pre-season training at Chelsea this week and will represent the U18s in the 2016-2017 campaign.
“Tariq is a north London boy who plays either in central midfield, left-wing or, more recently, left-back,” assistant head of youth development Jim Fraser told chelseafc.com.
“A versatile player and a quiet boy off the field, he made six appearances for the Under-18s last season.”
Uwakwe was registered for the UEFA Youth League in the 2015-2016 season but didn’t make a single appearance in the competition.
