Will Mikel Travel To USA With Chelsea? Club Remember His Debut Vs MLS All-Stars
Published: July 08, 2016
Ahead of Chelsea’s trip to the United States, where they will take part in the International Champions Cup, the official website of the Blues has recollected that John Obi Mikel made his debut for the club in America.
After a well-publicized transfer dispute involving Lyn Oslo, Manchester United and Chelsea, the Nigeria international penned a deal with the Londoners, then made his maiden appearance against the MLS All-Stars on August 5, 2006.
In the game held at Toyota Park, Illinois and officiated by Nigerian referee Abiodun Okulaja, Obi Mikel , wearing the number twelve jersey, came on in the 46th minute.
It remains unclear if the 29-year-old will feature against Liverpool, Real Madrid and AC Milan when Chelsea travel to USA at the end of this month as the defensive midfielder has been included in Nigeria’s provisional roster for the Olympic Games.
Mikel has made 372 appearances for Chelsea to date, the official website has reported.
