Exclusive: Nigeria Dealt Major Blow As Oboabona Reveals He Will Miss Olympic Games
Published: July 12, 2016
Turkish Super Lig club Rizespor have made a U-turn and will not permit Nigeria international Godfrey Oboabona to represent the Dream Team at the Olympic Games, the defender has revealed.
Oboabona has been included in Nigeria’s 35-man provisional squad for the competition in Rio de Janeiro and it was earlier thought that coach Samson Siasia listed him as one of the overage players because he received assurances from the player that Rizespor will not be a spoilsport.
“I am not joining the camp in Atlanta because Rizespor refused to release me, ” said Godfrey Oboabona to allnigeriasoccer.com.
“Yes I can confirm I am not playing in the Olympics because my club refused, I think they have sent a letter to the NFF that they won’t release me. ”
The former Sunshine Stars skipper has reported for pre-season training at Rizespor.
