Teen prodigy Ngumoha among Liverpool substitutes in 2-1 defeat to Manchester United

Teen sensation Rio Ngumoha was an unused substitute as Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2-1 in a tense Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for United in the second minute before Cody Gakpo drew Liverpool in the 78th minute.

However, defender Harry Maguire sealed victory for the visitors with a powerful header at minute 84 to hand the Red Devils all three points.

Ngumoha, who joined Liverpool from Chelsea last year, has been one of the standout young players this season after an impressive preseason campaign.

During preseason, the young forward scored against Athletic Bilbao, Stoke City, and Yokohama F. Marinos.

He carried his impressive preseason form into the new campaign, scoring the decisive goal on his Premier League debut to help Liverpool clinch a dramatic 3–2 victory over Newcastle United.

The goal etched his name in the club’s record books, making him the youngest player ever to score for Liverpool in the Premier League.

Despite his promising start, the teenager was left on the bench as manager Arne Slot sought experience in the high-stakes encounter.

The defeat extended Liverpool’s winless run to four matches across all competitions.

Born in England to Nigerian parents, Ngumoha has represented England at youth level but remains eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level.
