Chuba Akpom, Ovie Ejaria Feature As Liverpool Roll Past Arsenal In Premier League 2
Published: August 26, 2016
In their third game in the Premier League 2 (Division 1) this season, Arsenal lost 3-1 to Liverpool at the Emirates on Friday night, with two players of Nigerian descent in action for both teams.
England U21 international Chuba Akpom went the distance for the Gunners, and ex-Golden Eaglets trainee Ovie Ejaria played his first game since picking up an injury during the first team’s tour of America.
A first half brace from Benjamin Woodburn and a strike from Toni Gomez earned the Reds a win, while Akpom pulled a goal back for Arsenal in the 67th minute.
Ejaria, who spent nine years at Arsenal prior to his move to Anfield in 2014, subbed off in injury time after he was yellow carded for a challenge on Bielik.
Following the appearances of the two Nigerians today, both are unlikely to play for the first team this weekend in the Premier League.
Next up for Arsenal U23s is a trip to Staffordshire to face Derby County. Ovie Ejaria and Liverpool host Leicester City after the international break.
