Straight Outta Owerri ! Iheanacho Becomes First Nigerian To Score In Manchester Derby
Published: September 10, 2016
Kelechi Iheanacho became the first Nigerian player to score in the Manchester derby when he opened his account for the season as City beat neighbors Manchester United 2-1 in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor and former England youth international Nedum Onuoha had a chance to clinch the accolade when they played for the Citizens but failed to find the back of the net.
De Bruyne netted the opener in the 15th minute when the Manchester United defense were slow in reacting to Iheanacho’s flick on, before the Super Eagles striker tapped home in the 35th minute after he was kept onside by Blind.
Ibrahimovic gave the Red Devils hope when he halved the deficit in the 42nd minute, volleying in after Bravo failed to catch a set piece ball.
The home team cleared all the damages noticed in the first forty five minutes but could not get an equalizer in the second half.
Kelechi Iheanacho subbed out seven minutes out of intermission in what appeared to be a tactical substitution by manager Pep Guardiola.
