Nigerian Football Expert : Rohr Showed His Weakness By Calling Up Ogu Instead Of Esiti
Published: November 01, 2016
The invitation of Hapoel Beer Sheva star John Ogu ahead of KAA Gent midfielder Anderson Esiti for the World Cup qualifier versus Algeria has raised question marks in the local media.
Ahead of the announcement of the 24-man roster on Saturday, some sportswriters on the payroll of Goal.com (Solace Chukwu), africanfootball.com (Chris Oguguo), Complete Sports (Johnny Edward), Brila FM (Mathew Edafe) and broadcaster Kelechi Nkoro attempted to sway the decision of the German tactician after embarking on a public relations campaign, and he was forced to yield to their demands.
It is a foregone conclusion that either the impressive Anderson Esiti or Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder Nosa Igiebor would have earned a call-up to the team if Ogu was not invited.
Writing on FCnaija.com, respected journalist and Nigerian football expert Jide Alaka stated : “Anderson Esiti is missing from this list after being adjudged as the most improved player in the camp leading to the away win against Zambia.
“He fell ill but was still a used substitute for the Eagles in Ndola where the team won 2-1. Why was he dropped?
“Has Rohr shown the first sign of weakness by bowing to public calls for the recall of John Ogu?”
