Nigeria U19 Miss Out On N26.7 Million Prize Money, Suffer 3-0 Loss To South Korea
Published: November 12, 2016
The Nigerian U19 national team suffered their third straight defeat at the 2016 Suwon Continental Cup U-19 National Soccer Championship, losing 3-0 to hosts South Korea in their final game on Saturday afternoon.
The Manu Garba-led were thrashed 8-1 by England in their first game, before a narrow 1-0 defeat to Iran on Thursday totally extinguished their hopes of winning the competition.
Eum Won Sang opened scoring for the South Koreans in the 45th minute with a right footed shot.
Five minutes after the interval, Yoon Jong Kyu doubled South Korea’s advantage, before Cho Yeong Wook added more gloss to the scoreline with a third goal in the 57th minute.
The Nigerian team would have pocketed US$60,000 (equivalent of N26.7 million) if they had won the Continental Cup.
