Rohr : Mikel & Echiejile Showed Great Determination Vs Algeria Despite Lack Of Game Time
Published: November 12, 2016
Franco-German manager Gernot Rohr has spoken of his happiness in the wake of the Super Eagles 3-1 win over Algeria in a World Cup qualifier staged at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium on Saturday.
Without mentioning names, the Nigeria coach admitted that a couple of players in his starting XI, thought to be Mikel and Elderson Echiejile were lacking match fitness, but their grit and determination made them put up a good performance.
“I am very happy with this victory against Algeria, I am happy for my players, but also for the supporters, ” said Rohr to reporters.
“The Algerian team had absentees at the start of the match and we had to be vigilant.
“Our team also has some absentees, but we were able to compensate for these absences and the lack of competition of some of our players by a great determination as you have seen on the pitch.”
